Waddani Still Didn’t Grow Up By Mukhtar Elmi
Main opposition party in Somaliland, waddani, has long been blamed for failing to capitalize on the democratic and ‘leadership’ deficit of the ruling kulmiye party who won 2017 the election and defeat waddani by 80,000 vote. This is a fact that has not been taken into account by waddani bloggers who have back then launched a campaign to discredit the ruling party and his nomination president muse bihi abdi who is believed to have injected an element of pragmatism into the Somaliland politics.
There is a mysterious role-reversal at play in Somaliland. Abdirahman Tuur loyalists have become bold and imaginative by throwing their weight behind the ruling KULMIYE party politicians in addition to making UCID into a shamelessly vassal party led by an experienced, gaffe prone politician. How the vanquished changed their fortunes in the space of a few years to become policy makers in the very administration they had sought to destroy might be a subject of inquiry for the present or future Somalilanders.
Waddani back in 2017 was running in presidential election campaign but didn’t have experience to beat up in even close race KULMIYE veteran’s party leadership. There is a streak of weakness pussyfooting in the way WADDANI conducts politics. When it comes to the task of striving to make Somaliland an “inclusive polity”, KULMIYE some marks. Why? Because it has got the highest ratio of experienced politicians and diplomats compared to WADDANI. That’s why waddani was and Intel now so weak even cannot defend them self by the attacks coming to them from KULMIYE and UCID.
WADDANI had better take the advice of its seasoned supporters, and review its domestic and foreign policies his administration role. Rather than relying on populist policies, it should, like KULMIYE, show a spine and imagination to deliver itself from the state of being beholden to segment politics.It has never been vocal critic of the government’s decision to outlaw forums such as Caawa Caqli Keen!!.
Such silence about the government’s policies makes WADDANI a partner in misrule. People of Somaliland deserve wise, honest and accountable leaders. And now after the elections ends and muse bihi become president he show some positive political dissections and deserve the chair, rather waddani they show they are not ready to take the power and its shows from their action lately.
