H.E. Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed,

Congratulations on your recent changes you initiated Somali region of Ethiopia. In particular, we encourage you to bring energy to protecting and promoting the human rights and dignity of everyone in Ethiopia.

With your election victory, you and your new government have an opportunity—and the responsibility—to address human rights abuse occurred in Somali  State of Ethiopia such as extrajudicial and summary killings, rape , burning villages , displacing communities and above all the lack of accountability for abuses by the Liyu police.

The people who committed those atrocities mentioned above are so many most of them saying now like Germany Nuremberg trials ” wir haben es nicht gewußt, daß es so “, we didn’t know it was going to be like this although the atrocities are not the same caliber.— to let all those people who committed crimes in the Somali region of Ethiopia in the court rooms is unprecedented  legal process who will consume the judiciary system of Ethiopia as well as stability and peace  of Somali region in Ethiopia.

Mr. Prime minster, we believe your adherence to due process and the rule of law is uncompromising today and you stated numerous occasions that “rule of law must at all times prevail” and that government is obliged to “fulfill the human rights of our citizens.” but we saw on national TV’s former president of Somali region of Ethiopia Mr. Abdi Mohamud Omer transfer from house arrest to jail we assume believe us from that moment Mr. Abdi Mohamoud Omer is transformed from suspect to martyr in the hearts and minds of almost every Somali speaking individual even some intellectuals went so far to accuse you  Prime minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed conflict of interest according your ethnicity as Mr. Abdi Mohamoud Omer never spoke highly about Oromo nation uprising this sounds ridiculous but it resonates in the minds of many .

We write to you Mr.  Prime minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed with specific recommendations   please start as soon as possible  truth and reconciliation commission like south Africans did in the Somali region of Ethiopia coordinating with President Mustafa Muhumed Abdi demanding everybody should step beyond its own shadow — Somali elders/religion clerks  are good in that process secondly  Let us all make clear to Human rights watch and Amnesty international after thanking them to give jail time Mr. Abdi Mohamud Omer and Mr. Abdirahman Abdillahi Burale ( Ina laba go’ale ) the whole justice is not served . In contrary , maybe this narrow path of justice  can lead more injustice so let us all  give a chance the truth and reconciliation commission to serve broader sense of justice — punishment where necessary , forgiveness where it can ,compensation where it should and keeping always in mind without justice there is no real peace .

The last recommendation is to bring back Mr. Abdi Mohamud Omer to Somali region of Ethiopia as soon as truth and reconciliation commission is established to face justice in his own region otherwise his TPLF masters who were dictating him some of these crimes should face with him the justice in the federal government’s trials.

Mr. Prime minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed, your election had many firsts and many stories that will be told for generations. The challenges we face are real. They are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But we know one thing they will be met as that peace deal with our Eritrean brothers or giving your word to Egypt or reassuring gulf states that Ethiopia is a friend  or perestroika and glasnost in Somali region of Ethiopia the list is long in a short span of time .

Oh ALLAH , We ask that you would give Prime Minster Abiy Ahmed wisdom beyond his own understanding and the courage to chose the right path no matter how narrow the gate . We pray for the spiritual leaders of our country that they would hear your voice and know your heart. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed May ALLAH  give you and Ethiopia grace and strength to stand against the temptation to use power as a weapon but rather to carry it reverently as one would a child ………. Amen.
